What advice would you give a girl considering shamanism as her spirituality?

I am serious, but I need to know more, I am mostly getting some biased information and it is overwhelming I don't know where to start.

Anyone who can recommend books, or just general advice I'd really appreciate it.What advice would you give a girl considering shamanism as her spirituality?
First off, what draws you to Shamanism?

Are you looking more into the Traditional stand or Neo-Shamanism?

Please feel free to email me :)What advice would you give a girl considering shamanism as her spirituality?
Traditionally, shamans got to be shamans by having an experience which was not only life-changing, but life-threatening in some way - drug trances, high fevers due to illness, etc. The power was obtained by surviving such an ordeal. It was not something that one usually sought out, because the status of shaman set one apart from the rest of one's tribe. It did, however, carry a certain amount of respect in tribal cultures. Here, today, we are not in a tribal culture, and what once marked a shaman could very easily get you shunned, regarded as eccentric, or even treated for mental illness. Shamanism, really, is something that should be accepted if it is thrust upon you, but don't go looking for it.
I would just say that anyone should investigate all metaphysical and secular areas before making a choice. I assume that a shaman is a ritual or religious specialist who is believed to be capable of communicating with spirit powers. Man or woman, a shaman is said to be chosen by the spirits. A shaman's power comes directly from a spirit which takes possession of the shaman during a trance.

As for a book, I would recommend ';Reiki Shamanism'; ( A Guide to Out-of-body healing) This book is about 177 pages and is an easy read. After you finish it, you will have an idea whether you still want to pursue this line of spiritualism.
Historically becoming a shaman is something that is taught by a teacher. to a student. It is a very old method and is more appropriate for tribal societies. (This is one of my prejudices about it.) Read Carlos Castenadas' books if you want more info on shamanism. There might also be info at the link below.

If you want to follow an individual spiritual path I would suggest meditation. This is a part of shamanism as well as other paths. It will strengthen you connection w/ your soul or higher self. This will give you better guidance on what form your path will take.
Shamanism, while there have been a few books about it, cannot really be learned from books. Find a nearby wilderness area, and head into it on a vision-quest. Stay for at least three days. Either you'll become able to hear your own spirit-guide, and maybe a few other things, or you won't. Being able to hear spirits is like the first step on a Shamanism path. Having a spirit you can hear to give you the best guidance for you covers the rest of your steps.
Oh, my goodness. This a tough one. I would suggest that you find an instructor. There is no substitute for the tutelage of someone who practices this on a regular basis. http://www.shamanicteachers.com/index.ht鈥?/a>

Of course you are still very young and most of these people prefer that their students be a bit more mature in years. However to research and study on your own ...http://www.shamanism.com/

I hope this helps you on your way. It is truly a blessing to bring this gentle way of faith and healing to others. Peace%26amp;Love be with you...~M~
Its sounds more like you are in a store shopping and trying to choose what to bring off the shelf of spirituality. Be sincere in all things. If

shamanism really means anything to you at all it involved your whole being - body, mind, spirit. The same would be true of any spiritual endeavours

.

God bless, J
I would urge you in all seriousness not to misappropriate another culture's religious beliefs. Be careful.
My advice...don't do it. You will be inviting trouble not only in your life, but future generations. Please don't do it.
I suggest you become a Jedi instead.
Use the force.
Rub dirt in your hair and do a rain dance.
