Hi, Im a 19 yo girl. My friend has persuaded me to go to the gym with her regularly. Id like to but i dont know how should i exercise in order to lose weight and gain some strength, but avoid developing big muscles? Im a bit overweight and im afraid i will look even worse if i have big muscles. What should my training look like? If i use machines, how many repetitions should i do and how much weight can i lift? Thank you for your advice.Gym advice for a girl who wants to lose weight but not develop big muscles?
Don't worry about developing big muscles. You'd have to train pretty seriously with proper technique and nutrition to see big gains. The best you'll do if you stick with and do things properly, is develop a bit of tone. Try working out first and worry about getting too big later...good luck. There should be trainers at the gym to give you some pointers on a beginners routine but have a look at the link for some other ideas.Gym advice for a girl who wants to lose weight but not develop big muscles?
On machines do 8 to twelve reps at low weights for toning only. Also just do one set each. If you start to get muscular lower the weight. Do 30 minutes of brisk walking and 30 minutes of stairs. Then shower, hot tub/pool then go home.
Save your gym money and go walking in the fresh air every day. Make it a routine. Walk as much as you can during the week without over stressing your body. This is far better than any treadmill and its free. Eat small amounts of food regularly during the day. Again the key thing is small amounts and often, every 2-3 hours of so. You need to be walking about 5000 steps a day, and i mean walking not just moving around. So 5000 steps should take you about 40 minutes. As for strength dont worry about it till you have the weight level you desire.
You don't have to worry about bulking up hon. Women don't have enough testerone to do so. The only way you could bulk up is to take some kind of testerone supplements or steroids. You really should do strength training because with that you will build muscle...and muscle burns fat. I wish you the best. When I lost my 100 lbs, I didn't exercise at all, I used a program called Shapeworks. Good luck to you hon.
Cardio, cardio, cardio! It's a fat burner! At least 30 minutes a day for 4-6 days. If you want to gain strenghth but not muscle then use low weights and high reps. Example lift 15 pound loose weights 15-20 times for about 3-5 sets. It'll tone without building muscle. If you're serious about shaping up then do a diet of lots of protein and low fat and easy on the carbs. Carbs translate into fat rather quickly. Good luck!
One thing that will help you lose weight: diet pills. I was one of those who did not believe in them until I tried it. And I tried a few. The best product I found on the market is made with pure hoodia and it works great! You can go to
http://www.easy-fit.us and order you free trial, also you only pay $6.95 shipping and handling. Good luck!
You need to do lots of cardio(running, stairstepper, etc.) and do lots of reps w/ low weight. For example, do 3 sets of 15 reps. When you get to 15, it should be hard to get it up, that is how you know you are doing enough weight. If it is easy, do more. football players and people like that do heavy weight w/ low reps, like 3-4 reps. That is how you get bigger. Talk to the trainer at the gym or sign up for a few sessions with him. He will get you on a plan and will also help with diet. Good luck.
