I'm wanting to start running...I've not run before and I am a bigger girl. Any advice on how to start?

Also what shoes do you recommend? I can't spend alot of money on shoes but I want to do this the correct way to get healthy.I'm wanting to start running...I've not run before and I am a bigger girl. Any advice on how to start?
Your best bet for shoes is New Balance, they are designed with a runner's comfort in mind. I will never wear anything else when I run.

Make sure you stretch for about 5 minutes before you run to avoid cramps. Try these for best conditioning (squats, lunges, balancing exercises on one leg, abdominal crunches, back crunches) Start slow, if you are a teen I'd suggest up to a half mile at first, or what you can handle. Don't push yourself to the point of over-exhaustion you will grow discouraged fast doing that. Each couple of days add more distance. It's amazing how fast you get to that mile, and a great feeling of accomplishment.

Also when you start and feel like you need to walk a little, make sure you do that. After you catch your breath, start jogging again. Eventually you won't have to walk at all once you get used to it.

Make sure you wear the proper clothing and jog during the day or with someone.

After every time you jog make sure you cool down, do this by walking for a few minutes to get your heart rate back to normal.

Good luck, jogging is a great way to get healthy, feel good about yourself and lose weight.I'm wanting to start running...I've not run before and I am a bigger girl. Any advice on how to start?
For what you're going to do, don't worry about shoes. Get a physical, talk to your doctor about what you want to do, then go to the library and educate yourself on running as a sport. It's a fun, rewarding experience and you learn to trust yourself and overcome adversity.

But shoes aren't your biggest concern by a long shot. They'll become more critical when you start doing some distances, like 5 mile runs three or four times a week.
Good for you!!!

I was a big girl starting out (175 lbs!) and it's tough but don't give up!! Start out slowly and pace yourself.. The key is master the breathing, it takes time, you need to find what breathing pattern works best for you (I do short inhales/exhales and I'm asthmatic, other people swear by long inhales and exhales) You find what works for you.

Don't overdress, wear something comfy, I started in yoga pants and an oversized t--you heat up pretty quickly. THe shoes are your key equipement. You don't need the expensive ones right away especially starting out, I'd suggest a Saucony and see from there (I wear Asics Gels for my over pronation). But you don't want to skimp on the shoe so go to a Sports store where they know what they're doing and get yourself fitted.

Don't eat/drink an hour at least before heading out and mainly just have fun with it and listen to your body.

Check out this link for a good plan on how to get started
ok at first i couldn't run not even for 5 minutes without stopping. then i bought some running shoes at model's for 40 bucks and i was running for like 10 mins without stopping. i kept on and a year later i can run for 25 mins without stopping! don't focus on how fast you run focus on how far. you can run really slow but a really long run and thats better than running really fast for only 5 minutes. good luck :)
the best way is to start out walking, if you start running right away and your body isnt used to even walking in some distance it could put a strain on your heart especially if you are over weight. once you get comfortable in the walking some distance then you could go to a speed walk/ brisk passed walk or a light jog. actually walking briskly instead of jogging slowly will help save your knees because it has less impact. for running however something with a good cushioned sole is the best bet. maybe something that new balance makes or asics they are both good running shoes. good luck!
No matter what shape or size you are, anyone can start running. If you are new to it, I can garuntee you it will be brutal, according to my own exsperiences. I recomend starting slow and easy and then work up to a more intense work out. Go to your local school' s track and do a simple 2 lap warm up, which is 800 meters. Do that at your own comfortable pace with NO STOPPING OR WALKING. Next do several form drills like high knees, lunges, shuffel, and the grape vine. Push yourself. Next do stretches followed up with 10 push ups and 10 crunches. Then kick it into high gear by doing a lader. DEAD SPRINT 100m (1/4 of the track) then a 200 (1/2 of a lap) then a 300 (3/4 of a lap) then a 400 (1 lap) then lastly go back down the lader by doing a 300, 200, and a 100. Simple work out. You really will feel the burn! There will be those points when you are extremly tired and CAN'T move a single step. Well let me tell you this, if you can't do something, that just gives you more of a reason to try harder. I have been in your position before. I started out in track in 6th grade at the bottom of the pack. I got tired and left behind from being the slow poke. But I didnt care, I kept my head high. I tried harder, I pushed myself extremly beyond the limit, I set goals, and achieved them. As I said in 6th grade, i was a slacker in the begining, but by doing those work out PLUS MORE i achieved my goal and the next year in 7th grade I went to state and placed 3rd with the school record for pole vault. Now I'm in 8th grade and back and better than ever, going for the win. You could be like that too! All it takes is some faith! Go a whole year with out french fries and soda! Try it! It has earned me respect by the results! Watch what you eat too! An orange for breakfasrt, samali sandwhich with carrots for lunch, and chicken stirfry for dinner. Just follow those guide lines and you will be on your road to success to a thin stomach to fit in that bikini!
I good running shop can fit you. As to the rest the best advice is one word. SLOW. Just start slow with a short distance. Build up a base slowly and then build and go a little longer. If you have trails use those as they are much easier on the joints than hard surfaces.
I would say get a physical first from your doctor. Then I would say start with walking around your block, after you get used to this then start the running. Make sure you stretch before you run and stay hydrated. Wear proper running shoes.
U should start with just brisk walking if u normally dont exercise.... u dont want to over do it.
