Tips and advice for a girl who wants to live in the USA?

I'm a British citizen who really wants to live and work in San Francisco. I'm spending the next six months saving so i can live there for a few months to see how i like it and look for a job/visa sponsor. I am also looking for jobs that i could apply for before i go (i work with food) . I'm at the start of my journey of research and prep - anyone got any advice? Am i mad, is it really impossible?? I feel that it's something i have to try....Tips and advice for a girl who wants to live in the USA?

Be rich or don't get ill, theres no NHS over there and even if you have medical insurance you still might not get the treatment you need (ever watched ';Sicko';?)

Personally nothing in the world could induce me to live in a country with such appalling lack of universal healthcare, where a 18 month old baby with a fever of 104 dies because the insurance company are quibbling over which hospital can treat her . . .but each to their own I guess . . .
Hope you like whiny tree hugging hippies who only take a stand as long as it's against people. And don't cross the bridge into Oakland because it's a bloody #$@%26amp;hole
marry a US citizin...Im here for u
Think it through, plan for everything and follow your dreams.

If they don't work out, make sure you are secure and have every possibility prepared for.

Don't live for tomorrow, live with the dream of tomorrow being worked for as a possibility today by planning for it.
small guys are sweeter. take public transportation whenever possible, taxis and that s*** too expensive. americans love the brits, we really do, so you'll do fine socially. no worries, just have fun and make sure you always have some money in case of emergency. since you're going solo on this one, get mace too AFTER the flight, it might save your life one day.
you will love san fran. doing research into jobs before you go over is good. I think you can get a temporary work visa thru BUNAC or IEP for 6 months. If you get a good position with a company and they want to keep you, then they can sponsor you and your visa can be extended. There are so many great restaurants and culture there, it's a great city and there's so much opportunity. good luck =)
